Brief Biography of Dr. V.K. Bahuguna

 

Dr. V.K. Bahuguna is a member of Indian Forest Service (IFS) presently working as Dy. Inspector General of Forests in the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, New Delhi.    In the Ministry, he is heading the Forest Protection Division.  He is also incharge of the National Joint Forest Management (JFM) Programme and is involved in several policy innovations on community forestry, forest fire prevention and forestry infrastructure development.  

 

 Dr. Bahuguna had extensive experience in all the fields of forestry in India i.e. as field forest manager in the North-eastern bio-diversity rich forests of Tripura, as forest researcher and research manager at the Indian Council of Forestry Research & Education, Dehra Dun; as trainer and teacher at the Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal and now at the policy formulation level in the Government of India.  Dr. Bahuguna has more than 150 publications in the National and International journals to his credit.

 

For his outstanding contribution, Dr. Bahuguna was awarded the Queen's Award for forestry 2000, by the Commonwealth Forestry Association. UK.   Dr. Bahuguna had attended several international meetings and seminars and had delivered the Keynote Address in the XVI Commonwealth Forestry Conference held in Fremantle, Perth, Australia in April, 2001.  He is member of several national level committees on forestry and natural resources.
