POSITION:  Business Development Manager - Kitchen Herbal Garden Project-1 Post

Employer: A Public trust engaged in promoting conservation of medicinal plants & traditional knowledge.  The trust has decided to also develop "paid for market services", in order to be more socially relevant and self-reliant.

Note on "KITCHEN HERBAL GARDEN" (KHG)

A Kitchen Herbal Garden (KHG) is a set of carefully selected medicinal plants (usually ten to twenty) that can be planted in the backyard of urban / rural households.  Decentralised training and practical demonstrations on use of these medicinal plants can be organised.    The stated objective of the KHG program is to make "Home remedies using medicinal plants the first response of 1 million households."

NOTE: This position is only for Indian National.

Role :  

1. To design a "self-financing" program and strategy for promoting via KHGs Govt. Health Practices in one million rural and urban homes in Bangalore, Chennai & selected rural districts of Tamil Nadu.

2. To plan & conduct sample surveys to assess household needs for home remedies.

 

3. To network with various local community organisations and traditional physicians to promote KHG's in rural and urban localities.

4. To promote development of an "Internet" site called "green health" & to provide backup on green health information to KHG households.

5. To prepare a business plan to sustain and multiply the programme.

6. To seek "working capital" for promoting KHG program from corporate & venture capital sources.

Experience: 5 to 6 years of experience in the area of business development and marketing with a good track record of problem solving.

Desired background : We are looking for a self-driven person, with strong interpersonal skills, entrepreneurship ability, ethical values, positive mindset, proactive, pleasant personality and impeccable integrity.    Ideally someone also interested in "Indian medical heritage"

Age: Around 27 to 35 years.

Willingness to travel is essential.

The job responsibilities of the team member is primarily to assist the team leader

§ to design, organise and conduct need based training courses for in-house and institutional needs under the broad theme of Revitalisation of local health traditions and conservation of medicinal plants

§ to develop need based Training modules

§ to build a training team in the organisation

the job includes:   

a. Assessing the training needs of different target groups and framing the training objectives.

b. Developing the lessons/course contents by sourcing the necessary information from subject matter specialists/resource persons( in-house/out-house)/ literature/ field work.

c. Sourcing appropriate visuals/illustrations( laising with artists and resource persons when necessary).

d. Designing/developing the necessary training tools/learning aids- (handouts/instruction sheets/lecture notes etc.)

e. Selecting appropriate training methods/ media/resource persons.

f. Planning the course logistics and liasing with field agencies for arrangements/logistic support.

g. Organising/ conducting/anchoring the program.

h. Working on the evaluation and follow-up schemes and preparation of program reports.

Age: Below 30 years.

Desired Qualification:

§ Post graduate degree in Agricultural sciences/Environmental science/Mass communication.

§ Inclination towards training and communication.

§ Flair for Writing/editing.

Candidates with experience of conducting training / developing training modules/ writing science articles in the field of natural resources/ environmental science/agriculture are preferred.

Fluency in at least two of the south Indian languages and working knowledge of Computers is essential.

 

Fellowship for studying bone setting traditions of Local Health Traditions of Southern India:

A person who will be able to document bone setting traditions of Southern India (in selected areas)

Duration: 1 year (starting from early July)

Academic background: Medical graduate from Indian medicine or Western bio-medicine with a keen interest in bone setting tradition.

Age: Below 30 years

Fellowship: As per FRLHT fellowship guidelines - appro. Rs.6000/= per month plus travel and accommodation

POSITION: COMMERCIAL CUM MARKETING MANAGER:

Employer: Gram Mooligai Co Ltd (village herbs) is a public limited company with shares being held by self-help groups of cultivators and collectors of medicinal plants. The company has been promoted by a network of NGOs in the Medicinal Plants Conservation Network in south India.

Role: GMCL is looking for a commercial and marketing manager for marketing branded (village herbs) raw materials of medicinal plants. The job primarily involves identifying and negotiating with companies willing to buy the medicinal plants in bulk, executing buy back arrangements, pricing, overseeing logistics, recovery of sales etc. From 2002 onwards there are plans to put out finished products targeting rural women, through women's federation and hence involve marketing as well.

The person should have an aptitude for commercial and marketing aspects and a lot of patience. This job is like batting on a sticky wicket.

Note: This position is only for Indian Nationals.

Experience: Three to five years in a similar responsibility.

Desired back ground: Should have a back ground in agriculture/botany with a management degree.

Age: Not more than 30 years.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualification.

Research assistant for Research Initiative on traditional anti-malarial (RITAM)

 

A person who will be responsible for literature research from Ayurvedic classical literature to find treatment methods for malaria, monitoring and facilitating field level clinical research along with the collaborating local organizations.

Duration: 1 year (starting from July)

Academic background: Bachelor's degree in Ayurveda with interest in clinical research.

Age: Below 30 years.

Fellowship: An attractive fellowship will be provided.

Deadline for application: July 30, 2001

 

Fellowship for studying spiritual aspects related to Local Health Traditions of Southern India:

A person who will be able to understand, appreciate and comprehensively document the spiritual aspects of healing in the local health traditions of Southern India

Duration: 1 year (starting from early July)

Academic background: Master's degree with 2-3 year's field experience in interacting with communities

Age: Below 30 years

Fellowship: As per FRLHT fellowship guidelines - appro. Rs.5000/= per month plus travel and accommodation
