BRIEF BIODATA OF Dr.K.S.V.NAMBI
Born on July 10, 1938 in Tirunelveli District of Tamilnadu, India , post graduated in Physics of Madras University and subsequently obtained Ph.D degree from Gujarat University, Ahmedabad. Served as Scientific Officer of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai for 37 years and retired in 1998. Was a Research Associate at the research Reactor Institute of Kyoto University , Japan under the Colombo Plan. Was a Visiting Professor for one year at the Institute of Atomic Energy, Sao Paulo, Brazil. Had been a Ph.D. Guide of Mumbai University and helped students obtain degrees on topics dealing with Radiation Physics , Radiation Protection and Environment.
Produced the first ever atlas of Environmental Radiation Levels in India after making measurements with indegenously developed detectors. Worked also on Epidemiological studies related to Cancer and radiation and got included in the World Directory of Epidemiologists published by the International Agency on Reasearch on Cancer, Lyons. As Head of the newly started Division of Environmental Assessment of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, carried out programmes on: Micrometerology using Met Towers and SODARS and Atmospheric dispersion modelling; air pollution monitoring including development of indegenous systems for monitoring; environmental radiation monitoring around nuclear power stations in India; certification of import/export food items for their radioactivity contents to meet regulatory requirements; studies on aerosol generation and applications and a systematic study on Lead Pollution in Mumbai in respect of hospital-admitted lead poisoning cases as well as blood lead levels in school going children. Conducted annual national symposia on Environment at various venues in India to propagate scientific awareness on Environmental Issues. Carried out EIA related studies on Nuclear Projects. Developed Environmental Radiation measurement technique as a tool for dating in Archaeology & Geology and participated in a multidisciplinary-multi institutional study on Understanding the Thar Desert especially its chronology.
