About The Institute

The Indian Institute of Forest Management Bhopal is a premier sectoral management institute funded by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India, which constantly endeavors to evolve knowledge useful for the managers in the area of Forest, Environment and Natural Resources Management and allied sectors. It disseminates such knowledge in ways that promote its application by individuals and organizations. IIFM conducts the prestigious two year full time Postgraduate Diploma in Forestry Management (PGDFM) and carries out research, training and consulting in the area of Natural Resource Management and Environment.

IIFM has been entrusted with the following three important roles :

· As a leader in the field of Forestry, Environment and Natural Resource Management Education, be concerned with pushing the frontiers of knowledge for development of the sector.

· As a prime mover of knowledge in its field, interpret and adjust world’s knowledge to the Indian context, experiment and create an indigenous body of knowledge.

· As an Apex Institute, to provide effectively trained teachers to other educational institutions in the field with which it is concerned.

Faculty

The Director of the Institute, as its executive head, supervises the activities of the faculty and the administration. The Institute prides itself in having a multi-disciplinary faculty which is a mix of academicians and practicing forest officers in the following eight faculty areas

· Applied Computer Technology and Quantitative Techniques

· Communication and Extension Methods and Forestry Extension.

· Ecosystem Management and Technical Forestry

· Financial Management, Accounting and Control

· Forest Resource Economics and Management

· Marketing Management

· Personnel Management and Organizational Behaviour.

· Sociology and Social Anthropology.

The administrative support system consists of the Administrative Officer, Finance Officer, Assistant Administrative Officer, Assistant Librarian, and Assistant Managers who look after Academic Activities, Academic Services, Administrative matters, Maintenance, and Horticulture.

I come from small town of Narsinghpur in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. I was attracted to Columbia University’s newest masters degree program, the MPA in Environmental Science and Policy, for its emphasis on finding practical solutions to the kinds of environmental problems I witnessed firsthand in rural India. I sought to broaden my management and analytical skills, while developing a theoretical understanding of the sustainable utilization of natural resources.

Hello everyone,

My name is Kunal Mehta and I am currently reading towards a MSc in Environmental Change and Management at the University of Oxford. This is a one year Masters (taught) Programme, which is run by the Environmental Change Institute (ECI), a semi-autonomous research institute within the School of Geography and Environment. Please visit our website (http://www.eci.ox.ac.uk). The ECI has six research topics, namely Biodiversity, Climate Change, Energy, Conservation, Human Ecology, and Land Degradation. The ECI is starting a new research programme looking at ‘energy in the developing world’.

Michigan State University

My name is Kavita Dave and I am a MS student majoring
in Environmental Engineering at Michigan State
University.I have done my undergrad also in
Environmental Engineering from L.D.College of
Engineering,Gujarat,India. I am doing my masters in
Environmental Chemistry track, and my MS project is
about soil remediation. I am planning to graduate in
December,2004 and am very much interested in joining
an Indian Company working in my field.

Course in Conservation Biology from ATREE

course on conservation biology with an emphasis on sound scientific principles that underlie the practice of conservation. This is the 6th such course offered by ATREE.  The course will provide students with an opportunity to learn the basics of conservation science from some leading conservation biologists from India and abroad. It will provide rigorous training in tropical conservation biology as a separate discipline and will integrate socio-economic issues into the training curricula.  The course will focus on conservation issues at the regional level, but with a global perspective.
